WORKSHOP 1: April 26
"How to install your first Nuc hive and your bee check ups."
Have you been thinking about getting bees but not sure where to start? We can help you feel confident in setting up your beehive! Join us for this hands-on class where you will put on a full bee suit, see how we set up your nuc (short for Nucleus hive). We can also help you understand where to place your bees in your yard and some nifty tricks that will make your life so much easier when it comes to beekeeping! We will then take you through the hive explaining how to check your bees. Finally, we will end with a delicious treat from the bees... HONEY! Fresh from the combs!
WORKSHOP 2: May 31
"None of your Beeswax"
"What do I do with my leftover wax cappings? Why are the bees making crazy beeswax finger formations on my new frames? Why are there worms/ moths in my wax frames? How do I keep my built-out comb frames fresh? How do you make candles with beeswax? These are just some of the questions that we will answer in this workshop! Come roll up your sleeves with us as we get busy making candles and waxing some frames!

WORKSHOP 3: June 14
"What do bees, propolis, beeswax, hive beetles and mites look like under a microscope?"
Are you just a wee bit curious about the microscopic world of bees? We would love to show you! Niko is our entomologist on staff and she is preparing some very amazing slides to show what these little creatures look like up closely! Be prepared for some SURPRISES! We will also take you on a small nature hike where we hope to collect a few samples to view as well! Be prepared to spot a gopher tortoise or some deer on the way!
WORKSHOP 4: July 12
"What kind of pollen is in my honey"
As a beekeeper I often wondered where do the yellow, white, orange, green, black, and even purple pollen comes from? Different plants produce different colored pollen. In this workshop we will attempt to identify from a pollen sample which plants the pollen came from. We will use a microscope and a dichotomous key chart and also do some taste testing! Come explore the exciting world of pollen with us! We will also show you how to collect your own pollen!

Workshop Details
Workshop 1: "How to install your first Nuc hive and your bee check ups."
If you are allergic to bees we don't recommend this workshop. All the other workshops will be fine for you as they don't involve getting into the bees.
ALL Other Workshops:
Please bring water and wear protective clothing. You may wish to purchase your own bee suit before class or just wear the protective clothing I describe. Almost all bee equipment can be found on Amazon. Protective clothing includes boots (comfortable high top shoes, rain boots or hiking boots- the ground is not paved). Long sleeve light colored shirt (NO BLACK or dark colors.. Bees get mad at dark colors so WHITE or tan colors are best). Beekeeping gloves, light colored jeans or thick pants to your ankles. I will have a bee veil and hat available for purchase $10 or you can bring your own. I will provide hive tools, smokers, a first aid kit and an epi pen will be on site. Dress cool as the the pavilion isn't air conditioned, but it is shaded near a lake and we have fans. We have restrooms on site.
